Granlibakken presents the annual Lake Tahoe Women’s Wellness Weekend, November 8 & 9, 2014. The event fuses Western practices with Eastern philosophy to offer a balanced weekend of information, inspiration, activities, food & wine.
Hosting events is Granlibakken’s forte. The program begins Sat AM and finishes Sunday PM. A collaboration of community medical doctors, health professionals and fitness instructors come together to provide a weekend on wellbeing.

Tim Schroeder, DC is a chiropractor involved in a variety of professional and personal activities. Kim Bateman, PhD, Executive Dean of the Tahoe-Truckee Campus of Sierra College, is known for her engaging and entertaining presenting style. These skills earned her teaching awards at both Sierra Nevada and Sierra Colleges, and several notable keynote addresses. Recently, she delivered: “There’s a Fox Under my Bed and Pixie Dust in my Hair” at The Developmental Psychology Conference, “Symbol-making and Bereavement: The Temples at Burning Man” at The 10th Global Conference on Dying and Death in Athens, Greece, and a TEDx talk called “Singing Over Bones.” Her approach draws from both interdisciplinary and depth psychological perspectives and her signature courses include “A Mythological Guide to GriefWork,” and “Ecopsychology.” Dr. Bateman’s research interests include bereavement, humor, and organizational psychology, and she has presented 64 projects at regional and national conferences. www.sierracollege.edu
Wendy Buchanan, MS is an Exercise Physiologist and holds a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology, as well as a Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist from the American College of Sports Medicine. She has over 18 years’ experience at Tahoe Forest Health System in fitness testing and prescription; teaching weight loss programs, cardiac rehabilitation, wellness programming and providing health education to many individuals in our community of various fitness levels and health risks. Jill Whisler, MS, RD is a well-regarded expert in the field of nutrition, fitness, and wellness. She is a Registered Dietitian through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a certified Health Fitness Specialist through the American College of Sports Medicine, and completed the certification of both Adult and Pediatric Weight Management through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Jill’s focus for the past 16 years has been on developing corporate wellness programs through Tahoe Forest Health System. She enjoys the challenge of sports nutrition, management of eating disorders and disordered eating, weight management, child nutrition, and corporate wellness. Christina Campbell, ND, DC has extensive experience in Natural Medicine after completing 2 four-year doctorate programs obtaining both Doctor of Naturopathic and Doctor of Chiropractic degrees. She is a mother as well as owns and operates her full-time practice at the Tahoe Center of Natural Medicine located in Tahoe City. She practices as a primary care doctor serving as a portal for general family healthcare with an emphasis in healthy aging protocols, bio-identical hormone therapy, and musculoskeletal complaints. Melissa Kaime, MD attended Vanderbilt University, graduating in 3 years, magna cum laude, with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. Attending medical school at St. Louis University School of Medicine, she graduated as an Alpha Omega Alpha scholar. She entered the U.S Navy and completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Naval Hospital Oakland, CA. Dr. Kaime continued her service in Okinawa, Japan, as an Internist and returned to complete her fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Continuing on, she moved into the role of Director of the Breast Health Center, creating a multidisciplinary center with robust ancillary services such as acupuncture, music therapy, individualized exercise therapy, support groups and lecture series for patients and families. Her service continued and was deployed in support to the USMC to Al Asad and Fallujah, Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom II from 2004-2005.

Shavawn M. Forester, PhD, RD earned her bachelor’s degree in Clinical Nutrition from the University of California, Davis. She continued her education in nutrition at UC Davis earning a doctorate in Nutritional Biology with an emphasis in Advanced Physiology. Her doctoral studies were focused on the biology, physiology, and endocrinology associated with metabolism and weight control. Shavawn then moved to San Antonio, Texa,s to complete a dietetic internship and earn her Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) degree. Shavawn loves where she lives in Truckee, working as a Clinical Dietitian at Tahoe Forest Hospital, teaching nutrition courses at Truckee Meadows Community College, as well as contributing to and authoring research publications with UC Davis colleges. Megan Shirley, PA-C, completed her undergraduate degree in psychology and neuroscience from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, and she pursued a master’s degree as a Physician Assistant (PA) from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California. The program at Samuel Merritt allowed her to complete her clinical rotations in the Truckee and Reno area, as well as travel to Panama to help establish and provide medical care in indigenous communities there. As a physician assistant Megan can see new patients, order tests, prescribe medicines, make diagnoses, administer joint injections, and refer patients to our orthopedic surgeons if necessary. She also assists our surgeons in the operating room. Suzanne Aberasturi, PhD is a neuropsychologist with office locations in Reno and Carson City. For the past seven years she has had her own private practice seeing patients ranging from ages three to 100. Dr. Aberasturi tests to determine extent of disability, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Prior to private practice, she worked as an adjunct professor at University of Reno (UNR) teaching diagnosis and technology classes. Dr. Aberasturi has five different degrees. Among them, a Doctorate in Psychology from UNR and a Post Doctorate in Neuropsychology from Fielding Graduate Institute. Liz Broscoe is a performer, teacher, presenter, facilitator, writer and developer of drumming programs and curricula. With over thirty years of professional drumming experience and a diverse background in performance, Liz offers a unique perspective on drumming. She is an adjuct faculty at the Lake Tahoe Community College, teaching West Africa Djembe and dunun drums, Afro-Cuban congo and drum set classes. Liz is a certified DRUMBEAT facilitator– a program that engages participants, builds social skills, increases self-esteem and explores connections between making music together as a group and the development of health relationships. Liz is the owner of Drumchik Productions and offers a variety of educational programs, workshops and performances for children, adults and corporate/staff team building.
