For kids and kids at heart, Tahoe Donner Snowplay is one of our most recommended winter playgrounds for residents and visitors alike! Their park is the ideal location for making angels in the snow, building a family of snowmen (and don’t forget the snow dog and cat) and tubing down the manicured snow lanes, too!
Palisades Tahoe SnoVentures Activity Zone
Spending the day at Palisades Tahoe but not feeling like skiing or riding? Explore the SnoVentures Activity Zone in the Olympic Valley base area next to the parking lot, then warm up at the SnoVentures Lodge next door!

Resort at Squaw Creek
With expansive views of the granite peaks of the Sierra, there might not be a more magical spot for a few hours of skating at the Resort at Squaw Creek. Their outdoor rink area offers rentals for skating and hockey throughout the winter and can be rented for private events as well. Not a skater? No problem. Cozy up at their rink-side fireplaces and take in the spirit of the season with a toddy at your side!
Northstar Village Ice Rink
Whether you are a seasoned pro or just starting out, you can practice your swish and glide on the ice then warm up with a cup of hot cocoa and s’mores by the fire as you laugh the day and night away. Access to the rink is free of charge, and rentals are available on-site.
Truckee Ice Rink
Located a half-mile south of downtown Truckee at Truckee River Regional Park, the Truckee Ice Rink features public skating, rentals, private lessons and various ice-related activities.
