Why Live in Truckee, California?
The Lakes:
The story showcases the fact that Truckee is within 10 miles of 10 other lakes. Among them are two of our favorites: Donner Lake (pictured above) for fishing, swimming, and picnics on the beach, and Prosser Reservoir – a paddleboard fanatic’s favorite in the morning and a camper’s delight!
Running & Hiking Trails:
For those who enjoy a slower pace, there are endless miles of hiking trails throughout the Truckee/Tahoe region. Here is a list of our favorite hikes!
Coming up next weekend on September 9th and 10th, is the 30th annual Donner Party Hike. During this casual hike, you can learn about Donner Summit’s history and the tales of the most historically significant square mile in the entire Western United States. Once the hike is over, you will be entertained by the music of Alice Osborn and the tunes that she has written about aspects of the Donner Party. For more details, sign up at DonnerPartyHike.com.
Mountain Biking:
One of the world’s most famous trails for mountain biking that is a ‘bucket list’ must-do is the Tahoe Rim Trail (pictured above). This 170-mile long-distance hiking and biking trail loops around the Lake Tahoe Basin and varies in elevation from 6,223 feet to 10,338 feet at the top of Relay Peak in Nevada. There are just a few sections that are closed for biking, so be sure to visit TahoeRimTrail.org for all the details.
From the shores of our crystal-clear lakes and streams to the mountain tops and trails, Truckee/Tahoe’s year-round playground is just the beginning of one of the “Best Mountain Towns in America and Beyond!”
