Tahoe Donner Golf Course
If you have yet to experience the region’s newest golf course renovation, this fall is the time to do so. They invested over $2 million in the past two years to elevate the course’s reputation as one of the best in Truckee/Tahoe. What you will see and experience are its expanded and redesigned tees (including forward tees), wider and more playable fairways which heightens the play for family fun and some relocated cart paths and drainage to improve its natural environment.
Coyote Moon Golf Course
This is another favorite course for those who choose to test their talent and tenacity at the sport of golf. Its dramatic landscape will have you mixing your choice of clubs as the course is designed to complement its natural setting. Elevated tees, narrow pine-lined fairways and creeks that will distract your strategy are all a part of Coyote Moon’s mountain setting.
Northstar Golf Course
Legendary landscape architect Robert Muir Graves created two of the region’s more popular 9-hole golf courses that wander through Northstar California’s northern and western neighborhoods. Locals will tell you that there are plenty of challenges as you work your way through the courses’ traditional mountain course design. Created in Grave’s classic design are fairways and holes that are placed within the terrain’s rugged and forested setting. The course plays up to 6,781 yard and carries a rating of 72.4.
Gray’s Crossing
Tucked away in a beautiful mountain meadow in Truckee, California, Gray’s Crossing is one of the two magnificent courses owned and operated by the Tahoe Mountain Club. It was designed by legendary golf architect Peter Jacobson who created this classic “mountain” designed golf course. One of its best kept secrets is its innovative “Glow Golf” program that puts a whole new twist on ‘tee it high and let it fly!”
Schaffer’s Mill Golf & Lake Club
Monday is the day to plan to play at Schaffer’s Mill as it’s the only day that welcomes non-members to enjoy this John Harbottle III and Johnny Miller piece of paradise. They present this Club as a “tale of two golf courses” as the first nine winds through a classic Sierra meadow and the back nine typifies what you would expect from a classic mountain design with elevation changes up to 400 feet.
Old Greenwood Golf Course
One of the region’s most challenging courses continues to be listed as one of the top courses in America, and with good reason. Old Greenwood is yet another gift for golf enthusiasts. It is a tough Jack Niklaus designed course with 7,300 yards of strategically placed fairways and holes. Adding to the beauty of its mountain setting are some of the most magnificent architecturally designed mountain golf course estates.
Ponderosa Golf Course
This super family-friendly golf course had three sets of tee boxes which is ideal for a group for friends or family who have various skill levels. The nine hold course features 3,022 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 35. It’s one of the region’s best values that includes an option for twilight play. It is family-owned, operated, and offers a 9-hole course that you can play twice if you so choose in the same day. The setting is spectacular.
