While New Year’s Eve certainly will feel and look a lot different this year, the evening can be fun, festive and unique with family and friends!
It is the holiday season through the end of the year, so keep celebrating and appreciating the season! There’s still plenty of time to take a walk in the winter wonderland, toast in front of a toasty fire, or host a party in the not so usual ‘stay in place’ location!
The following ideas are just the start of what you may want to do to reinvent your celebration.
From Alison, Desmond and your friends at Elder Group Tahoe, we wish you and yours a Happy New Year and bright 2021! Read on!
Plan A Cool Moon Party
On December 29, 2020, an official ‘Cool Moon’ will be high above the High Sierra. Let that bright light shine above as you host a party in the great outdoors. Be it just within your backyard with S’mores and Champagne (and a few heaters to keep it cozy) or a snowshoe or cross-country trek in the woods to your favorite look-out spot, either way is a great way to get your 2021 underway!
Party in a Perfectly Safe Place
We promised you some new and innovative ways to keep that celebration safe. Do you know someone with an airport hangar? How about an empty commercial space or barn in the back yard? Got a big garage? GO BIG and go all out this NYE!
All you need are a few decorations (think metallic, gold and silver!) and you have set the scene for an unforgettable occasion. Forget the shimmery attire and bring out your most colorful ski clothes to keep things festive and fun! Suggest your guests “BYOT” and fill their thermos with their favorite libation. As for the food, why cook? Take a look at our recent blog about “Gourmet To Go in Truckee-Tahoe” and leave the prep to the pros! Cheers to the New Year!
Throw an “Around the World” Pajama Party
Go ahead, let the kids stay up late! Plan a PJ party like they have never experienced before (and it is educational, too). Now is the perfect time for the whole family to plan the night and this idea will do it right. All around the world families are preparing the perfect “Good Luck” dish to ring in the new year. Have your kids do the research or get cooking on these ideas below.
In Spain, people eat exactly 12 grapes – one for each stroke of midnight – to ensure prosperity in the new year. So why stop at 12? Try this oh-so-delicious Grape and Pear Pie … and don’t forget the ice cream!
In Georgia, people snack on diamond-shaped Gozinaki which is caramelized walnuts that have been cooked in honey. Here’s the recipe so get cooking!
In Nigeria, you are likely to find a dish containing lentils which are commonly associated with wealth. We found 25 ways to include this healthy staple into your meals in 2021.
Here are more ideas:
