With the ski season well underway, and holiday celebrations for all ages on tap, there’s no reason this season not to head to Truckee/Tahoe to ring in the new year.
With so much to do and see, we thought we’d make it easier on you and yours to list some of our favorite New Year’s Eve festivities in Tahoe Donner, Truckee, Tahoe City, and North Lake Tahoe this year.

Alibi Ale Works “Dead Winter Carpenters” New Year’s Eve

Rock and roll over to Alibi Ale Works as the famed Dead Winter Carpenters end their
5-day Northern California Tour in our historic downtown. Their Facebook Event post provides all the specifics that show details on their concert line-up that also includes the locals’ favorite band “Sneaky Creatures.”

New Year’s Eve Family Celebration at Squaw Valley

It’s a full day of festivities as Squaw Valley pulls out all stops to start the festivities of ringing in a new year. Make plans now to enjoy one or all the celebrations that they have planned for your family and friends on Monday, December 31st the Olympic House for an unforgettable NYE family party and complete with an “East Coast New Year’s Eve Ball Drop” featuring DJs and a Balloon Drop.

For the region’s finest “feel good farewell” to 2018, the High Five the Year takes the top award. Join in the party this New Year’s Eve at the Olympic Village Lodge as the High Fives non-profit foundation hosts its annual fundraiser wrapped with entertainment, champagne toasts and a classic Ball Drop while you help raise money to provide resources and inspiration to those who suffer life-altering injuries.

Light Parade and Fireworks at Tahoe Donner
4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
If your kids are intermediate skiers, or better, don’t let them miss this one. Every year Tahoe Donner organizes a New Year’s Eve Light Parade for skiers and riders ages 10 or older to join in this free event. They will be escorted (yet unassisted) down the Snowbird Run in the dark!
Upon arrival at the bottom, all spectators will be entertained by Tahoe Donner’s annual Fireworks show. If you want to stay cozy, our friends at Tahoe Donner welcome you to watch the festivities from the bar at the base of the slopes.

Tahoe Donner Cross Country
New Year’s Eve Snowshoe Tour
5:30 p.m.
Get the best of both worlds on your New Year’s Eve schedule this year with a guided snowshoe tour at Tahoe Donner Cross County, then cozy up in the Trailside Bar and watch the fireworks high in the sky from Tahoe Donner Ski Resort.

New Year’s Eve Fire & Ice Celebration at Northstar
“East Coast Midnight!”
Celebrate with family and friends around the outdoor ice-skating rink with an ice bar, music, fireworks, and warm fire pits all night long during Northstar’s annual “New Year’s Eve Fire & Ice Celebration.
Be sure to bundle up for a full night of festivities that includes enjoying music from one of the Bay Area’s top party bands, “Boomboxrox” at the base of the slopes.
Holiday Stella “Pop-Up” Dinner Party
6:00 p.m. – 9:00 pm.
One of the finest spots to spoil yourself any time of the year is at “Stella”- located at the Cedar House Sport Hotel. As their website notes: “We believe that no great meal should be eaten alone, but instead, shared amongst family and friends as you unwind and exchange stories from the day. This is dinner as it should be. A repast with soul, heart, and nourishment.”

Ring in the NEW YEAR with Za’s Lakefront restaurant and enjoy live music from the forever-local favorites “Ike & Martin.
