Truckee-Tahoe Airshow
June 22, 2024
Truckee-Tahoe Airport
Touted as “one of the region’s most family-friendly events,” the Truckee Tahoe Air Show and Family Festival is one to put on your calendar this month.
The mission of the Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival is to provide a free interactive, educational, and fun-filled, family-oriented aviation event for the Truckee North Tahoe region. All proceeds go to local youth organizations, programs, and scholarships.
The schedule is jam-packed with activities that include a ‘world-class airshow,” astounding aerobatic performers, rides in military aircraft education activities and endless opportunities to get up close and personal to some of the finest aircraft and pilots in the business.
It’s Sierra Waterfall Season!
Webber Falls: Plunging 76- feet deep into a gorge carved out of basaltic bedrock, Webber Falls has two tiers that cascade into the rapids below. It’s spectacular this time of the year as its source is fed from Webber Lake which still has an ample snowpack surrounding its shoreline.
Palisades Creek Trail & Waterfalls: For a full-day exploration, set your sights on this 12.6- mile (round-trip) trail near Soda Springs. It’s the ideal trail for truly getting away from it all, whether hiking for the day or backpacking in for an overnight adventure. The streams and waterfalls along the way are worth the time you will want to take to soak it all in.
Best Beaches for Launching Your Paddleboard
Donner West End Beach ~ Truckee
Located on the West Shore of Donner Lake, this 12-acre day-use beach is ideal for families in particular. There’s plenty of room to spread out and let your day slip away or slip your paddle board into the Lake and paddle your day away! The beach is also staffed with American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards to help you watch over your kids!
Donner Memorial State Park ~ Truckee
The south end of Donner Lake is another super option to please the whole gang. In addition to its beautiful beaches where you can launch your board, there are boats to rent, and hiking trails lined with interpretive signs along the way. For those who want to learn more about the region, stop in the Visitor Center for local insight into the Donner Party exploration and our Indigenous residents of time gone by.
Patton Landing ~ Carnelian Bay
The east side of the Sierra Boat Company is another easy option for launching your paddleboard or kayaks throughout the year. It’s so convenient, it’s considered the North Shore’s paddleboard headquarters, for all the right reasons. On site is Waterman’s Landing, a concession that offers a free nonmotorized “car top boat launch” to get you underway. It’s also a good stop for local baked goods, gourmet coffee and more to enjoy, making your day complete.
