In a word: RELENTLESS.
Over 400 volunteers and race crew of 100 never let the 108” of new snow before and during the event stop their persistence to persevere. On the race course, 60 inches of snow ‘had to be removed’ from the course to confirm to the World Cup racing and safety standards. It was a sight to be seen and one that will certainly go down in history.
Regardless of the FEET of snow that pounded the Sierra before, during and after the Stifel World Cup at Palisades Tahoe, over 15,000 spectators from 100 countries cheered on 102 athletes from 23 countries around the world.
As Palisades Tahoe COO Dee Bryne said: “We were so thrilled to welcome back our friends at World Cup Skiing. Our legendary terrain and snowfall exceeded all expectations. We were overjoyed to be able to offer the competitors a rare opportunity of a power day alongside a challenging racecourse.”

Truckee-Tahoe Ski Resort Closing Dates
With storm after storm hitting the Tahoe region, at least two Truckee-Tahoe resorts are lengthening their seasons. Palisades Tahoe will stay open through Memorial Day, and possibly longer, weather and conditions permitting.
“Depending on spring snowfall and snowpack, we will likely extend the season beyond May,” public relations manager Patrick Lacey said in an email to the Tahoe Daily Tribune editor. “Our plan is to go as long as conditions allow, and that means skiing and riding into June and potentially through the Fourth of July.”
