From the best Wine Walk in the West to Truckee’s family-friendly Fall Fest, there’s plenty of events to keep you out and about enjoying our beautiful fall weather. To see some of the Elder family’s favorite things to do in the fall, see the highlights below.

The Great Trail Race

Come one, come all! Mountain bikers and trail runners unite in the annual Great Trail Race in Truckee to raise funds for Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue on October 1. It’s a day long event that blends the best of all worlds as the novice to the most advance wind their way through Truckee and Tahoe City along the trails and Sierra forest.
You can choose to test your talent and compete against the rest of the pack or pack a lunch and stroll with your friends and family to the finish line.
19th Annual Truckee Wine Walk and Shop

Since 2004, the Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk & Shop has been regarded as one of Truckee’s leading annual events. This year it will be hosted on October 1, from noon to 4pm.
This event brings nearly 1,000 local and visiting participants to sip wine and sample local food tastings while enjoying shopping in historic downtown Truckee.
Over the past 19 years the Wine Walk has donated more than $40,000 to local non-profit organizations. Past partners include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Food Hub, Tahoe Safe Alliance, Girls on the Run, The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe and Sierra Senior Services.
This year, their partner is the Truckee Donner Horsemen Association, a non-profit organization founded in 1962 in Truckee California, whose purpose is to sponsor, cultivate and foster an interest in horses and horsemanship throughout the Truckee, Donner and Sierra.

It’s harvest season in the West and celebrations abound throughout Truckee/Tahoe! Bring the kids and your furry friends too as everyone is welcome at the annual Tahoe Donner Fall Festival at the Northwoods Clubhouse and Pool. Throughout the day there are festivities for all that get better every year.
Think: Candy apples, costume contests and so much more! Go for the Brats and beer or grab an Oktoberfest pretzel and classic cheese beer dip. Then take your pup to the ‘doggie dip adventure’ into the pool for some end of the summer fun from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Tickets are available at the event. If you would like to pick up your wristband(s) the day before the event, please do so at the Member Services office in Northwoods Clubhouse on Oct. 7.

Christmas shopping comes early! Get ready to shop ‘til you drop while you savor seasonal delights and sip fine wine, too! It’s a full weekend of fun and festivities at the annual Made in Tahoe Festival at the Village at Palisades Tahoe. Come for the music, chat with the artisans and check out the latest and greatest tastes of the Sierra from our renown local chefs.
You can see the list of the brewers and crafters on the festival’s website and check out the entertainment line-up too. It’s free to attend both days from 11:00am – 5:00 pm.
