If you ever wanted to try the sport of rock climbing, today is your day. Located at the top of the Tram at Palisades Tahoe is Tahoe Via Ferrata – an adventure of a lifetime to climb Palisades Tahoe’s most iconic “tram face” rock. Thanks to Alpenglow Expeditions, you can safely learn how to navigate the face of the rock that is featured in endless Warren Miller ski films and other extreme adventure films.
Via Ferrata actually means “Iron Road” in Italian and that is exactly what you will experience in the USA at Tahoe Palisades. You will be safely connected to the rock at all times as the climbing route has steel anchors and cables that guide you along the way. All the equipment that you will need is provided. Be sure to make a reservation!
Fly Like an Eagle
There are so many reasons why the Truckee area in particular is popular for those who still need to commute to the Bay and beyond. Having our local Truckee Tahoe Airport is indeed one of our community’s finest features.
And within the operation is SoarTruckee.org which offers some of the most breathtaking soaring rides you will ever experience. It is part of the Truckee Tahoe Soaring Association. That group’s mission is to to advance the science, art, and safety of soaring flight in the Northern California and Nevada region with a specific focus on training the next generation of soaring pilots and aviation youth leaders to serve their community and society.
For more details about their programs, visit SoarTruckee.org.

Here’s another adventure that is a must-not-miss. Tahoe Helicopters is the region’s most respected operation that offers a variety of tours to get you up and over the lake, and then some. Here are some highlights as noted on their website. For complete details, visit TahoeHelicopters.us.
Emerald Bay
Showcasing beautiful Fallen Leaf lake, Cascade Lake, Taylor Creek, and Pope Beach, this tour heads to breathtaking Emerald Bay.
Zephyr Cove
Witness the beautiful indigo blue waters and teal shorelines as you fly to Zephyr Cove and then to the west to Fallen Leaf Lake and Cascade Lake to Emerald Bay.
Sand Harbor
Fly over some of the locals’ best kept secrets, the hidden beaches and bays along the east shoreline. After reaching Sand Harbor, they climb up for a look at Marlette Lake, at 7,841 feet above sea level.
Lakes and Waterfalls
This is by far our favorite! During this 30-minute tour you will see a myriad of lakes and waterfalls and then climb to 9,984 feet to complete your ‘bird’s eye view.’
Sail High!

Within their hour-long tour options, you will be high above the Lake for about eight to ten minutes – guided by United States Coast Guard licensed captains. The best part of this option is that you don’t have to go alone. They offer packages for up to three people at a time.
As a full-service water sport company, they also offer rentals of the following equipment:

Up, Up, and AWAY!
Lake Tahoe Balloon’s website says it best: “Beyond Incredible.”
Early bird or not, put this one on your bucket list! This is a morning sport that is worth setting your alarm for whether you are an earlier riser or not!
The launch site is at the Tahoe Keys Marina in South Lake Tahoe where the day starts with a sunrise over the Eastern Sierra. You will be greeted and guided by the professionals at Lake Tahoe Balloon, owners of the Tahoe Flyer, which is the world’s only United States Coast Guard certified balloon launch and recovery vessel.
As you rise above the crystal-clear water of Lake Tahoe, the natural beauty of all that is below you, around you, and above you will be some of most breathtaking sights to behold for the rest your life.
