A Perfect Father’s Day in Truckee-Tahoe – Sample Itinerary
Whether your Dad prefers to be pampered with brunch overlooking a lake or to sail into the sunset before a gourmet meal, Truckee-Tahoe offers the perfect playground to please every Pop.
To help with your planning purposes, we’re offering a fun itinerary to get your creative juices flowing.
Breakfast in Bed or on the Porch
Start the day with a light and delicious breakfast with locally sourced food. Pick up (the day before) some of the tastiest treats from Cornerstone Bakery in Truckee and Tahoe House Bakery and Gourmet in Tahoe City. Pair it with his favorite java and fresh fruit from a local farmers market (link to the June 4 blog) and you are good to go!
Take a Morning Hike
With the varying ages in our family, it’s important to find a trail that is easy for all involved. In Tahoe Donner there are more trails than one could cover in a summer! To find a trail that is ideal for you and your friends, download the Tahoe Donner Trail Map to start this special day off right! For more ideas, here is a list of some of our other favorite hikes in Truckee-Tahoe.
Learn Some Local Lore
While in the Donner Lakehttps://www.eldergrouptahoerealestate.com/neighborhoods/donner-lake/ area, stop in at the Donner Memorial State Park Museum for a guided historical tour. It is here where the whole family can learn all about the Donner Camp, where members of the ill-fated Donner Party were trapped by weather during the winter of 1846–1847. By the way, there’s a well-stocked Gift Shop within the Museum (hint, hint) to buy something memorable for Dad while supporting the Park’s preservation efforts.
Take a Lunch Break
We love the quaint and quiet Donner Lake Kitchen located at 13720 Donner Pass Road. There are two options: take out (for a picnic on the Lake) or dine in. This local’s favorite has been around since the 1970s and continues to achieve great reviews. We suggest skipping dessert and saving room for some homemade ice cream or bottomless mimosas with brunch! Read on!
Who Wants Ice Cream?
The Little Truckee Ice Creamery is charming in every sense of the word and located at 15628 Donner Pass Road. Their website tells the story best: Not just great ice cream, but super-premium all-natural ice cream made right here at our quaint scoop shop near the west end of Donner Lake.
Sail Into the Sunset
Here’s the perfect splurge that the whole family can enjoy. Contact TahoeSail.com to book your private charter to celebrate the day. They are by far one of the finest charter services on the Lake and know all about ‘first-class’ outings that make a lasting impression.
Dinner on the Lake
