Snow is in the air – finally – and it’s that time of year again! SnowFest will be kicking off on Thursday, February 27th and running through March 9th. Every year since 1982, North Lake Tahoe comes alive with ten fun-filled days and nights, jam packed with events and activities for all ages. The annual favorites will be back this year, along with a host of great new ones!
On and off the mountain, at North Tahoe’s numerous resorts and vibrant lakeside neighborhoods, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy on-snow events at resorts like Squaw Valley USA, Alpine Meadows, Homewood, Diamond Peak, and Northstar-at-Tahoe; participate in special events, parades, races, parties, concerts, theater; and of course, there’s plenty of wining and dining to be had at North Lake Tahoe’s fine restaurants and lively establishments. Join in and celebrate the fun and frolic of winter! There’s no better time to be in North Lake Tahoe.
Join in and attend SnowFest’s opening ceremony at Squaw Valley on Friday February 28th starting at 6:00 p.m. Squaw will host a colorful fireworks show, torchlight parade, extreme food eating challenge, and live music! This year’s theme is “Bringing Back the 80’s”! Put on your most outrageous day-glow, gaiters & jeans, and Wayfarer sunglasses and make plans to be here for another great celebration!
There are some great events for everyone, any age! Some of our favorites are the Tahoe City SnowFest Parade on Saturday March 1st from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This fun, eclectic, mountain town feeling parade has something for everyone! Clowns, dogs, kids and snow machines… it’s definitely a fun, and rowdy day in Tahoe City.
Also if you dare, Gar Woods holds a Polar Bear Swim also on Saturday Mach 1st from 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Participants compete in a swimming race in Lake Tahoe (very COLD 40 degree) water, beyond the end of the Pier and back (approx. 225 yards). Hundreds gather to watch these brave souls who think that swimming in freezing water is fun!! Come join in with the swimmers, or just come and have a Wet Woody and watch with the masses. Prizes for men’s and women’s categories bound for the strong at heart, and stroke!
Granlibakken is holding a “Bonkers” Kid Ski Race on Sunday March 2nd. The 1st Annual kid’s ski obstacle course competition. It’s an all-out top to bottom race over natural terrain, complete with gates, obstacles, bumps & more! Activities and fun for all ages.
