Alison has been involved with the Queen of Hearts for the past several years – it’s a fantastic Community Foundation program that has taken great strides to benefit worthy organizations in our Truckee-Tahoe region.
The Queen of Hearts Women’s Fund was officially launched in February, 2006. The goal was to identify 1,000 women to give a minimum of $1,000 and raise $1 million dollars within 1 year. They exceeded this goal and raised $1.3 million date and our membership continues to grow. The most appealing benefit of joining the women’s fund is that by giving collectively, we are able to make a bigger difference than any one of us could individually.
This year the Queen of Heart’s Women’s Fund proudly announced the launch of the Girls Giving Back initiative at the May 8th Annual Event. A youth-driven effort working to engage the next generation of women in philanthropy, Girls Giving Back is gearing up to define its own unique style of giving back.
Girls who are members between the ages of 10 and 18 are invited to participate in the initiative by working alongside the grants committee of the Women’s Fund and may potentially grow its own youth fund.
Community support, involvement and supporting others is one of our family foundations. We have some terrific young participants and plan to expand this program to teach more about philanthropy, grant assessments, endowments and more!
