With Independence Day around the corner, it’s time to plan a celebration to remember. From backyard movies to front porch parties, it’s all about family time and friends as life gets back to what we used to love to do during this celebrative time of the year.
To help you plan the perfect holiday for all to remember, look at our list below. If you are out and about, come on by to say “hi” to the Elder Group Tahoe Real Estate family in Truckee, CA.
Bake it Red, White, and Blue
Go ahead and test your creative juices all day long. From pancakes topped with strawberries and whipped cream, to blueberry cupcakes from the oven, or beverages topped with your most festive décor, make it red, white, and blue from sun-up to sundown and long into the night.
Ever wonder what the significance is of our All-American colors? White signifies purity, the red denotes valor, and the blue was selected to imply perseverance. Follow this link for more ideas on how to prepare perfectly festive desserts and more this 4th of July.
Where to Find the Most Fresh and Colorful Fruits and Veggies?
Be sure to stop in at Common Beach in Tahoe City on July 2 and the Truckee Farmer’s Market on July 3 at the Truckee Railyard Parking Lot or to fill your plates with locally-grown goods this 4th of July.
All American “Soldier Salute” BBQ
This year, ask the kids what they thought our American soldiers ate during the war. If they are stumped, here’s the list. Once you review this with them, perhaps the whole family can come up with a meal in their honor this holiday.

Where to Find the Best Brats in Town?
With pork mentioned above, perhaps Brats in a Bun might be the perfect solution to pull this idea all together. Head on over to Mountain Valley Meats in Truckee to complete your BBQ shopping this holiday weekend and all year-round.
Turn Up the “Traditional” Tunes
Why not cue it up and share these classic 4th of July songs with your neighbors this year. Get your music streaming account open, queue some of our favorites listed below, and feel free to share a little history as you get into the mood this holiday.
Various European countries claim the original of the tune we know as Yankee Doodle, and it was the British who brought the song to America during the French and Indian Wars.
Initially called “You’re a Grand Old Rag,” is a patriotic song written by George M. Cohan in the year of 1906. Even though this song is over 100 years old, it is one of the most loved patriotic songs of today.
This is one of the United States’ most famous folk songs. Its lyrics were written by American folk singer Woody Guthrie in 1940.
Speaking of Music …

Make it a Backyard Movie Night
Get out the popcorn, put up a pop-up screen, and you are good to go with your own movie night in the backyard. Keeping with the Independence holiday theme, we have selected three of our favorite movies that we love to watch with a patriotic theme. Once the movie is over, why not set up a tent and call it a night!
Captain American – The First Avenger: This is a 2011 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America. The kids always love this one.
Yankee Doodle Dandy: Originally released in 1942, Yankee Doodle Dandy was selected for preservation in 1993 in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Independence Day: This is one our family’s favorite science fiction movies. Often referred to as a modern-day classic, it’s the perfect movie to bring out at least once a year to remind us of the power we all have to make a difference when we work together.
Enjoy Movie Night All Summer Long
The Art House Cinema and Drafthouse in Tahoe City is back in full operation offering movies and theater for your full enjoyment. See their schedule for complete details.

No matter where you go or what you do this holiday week, we encourage everyone to remember those who gave their life or are serving today on behalf of the very freedom we celebrate on the 4th of July.
