As the summer season is slowing slipping into one of the most colorful times of the year, our mountain communities continue to host some of the most festive events through the end of August and into Labor Day Weekend. And this year is no exception. From our final celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad, to fundraisers to preserve and protect our natural habitats, to a good old-fashioned Western hoe-down, it’s a jam-packed holiday in the High Sierra.

Mountain Evenings with Music, Food & Family Fun
Tuesdays, through September

Gray’s Crossing
Now, and throughout the end of September, head on over to Gray’s Crossing Tahoe Mountain Club to enjoy their weekly “Live Music Series” which includes some scrumptious food as well! The free family-friendly concerts showcase some of the region’s most popular bands which you can enjoy throughout the evening and under the stars. Lawn space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. For dinner, you can pick up a burger, wrap, or lighter options or pre-order your delicious buffet dinner by calling in advance at 530-550-5801.

A Fundraiser for Mountain Area Preservation
Friday, August 23rd
5:30 pm – 9:30 pm
This is another lovely event that we look forward to every year. In its 11th season, the Mountain Area Preservation organization will host a magnificent evening at the popular Stella Restaurant at the Cedar House Sport Hotel in Truckee, CA. This multi-course farm to table dinner will be paired with Illanta Wines and followed by scrumptious desserts. Come enjoy live music as well as a silent auction to raise money for the organization which is celebrating 32 years of conservation success!
The event is $175 per person and reservations should be made by sending an email to lynn@mapf.org. Portions of the donation are tax-deductible and will support their goal:

Truckee Community Theater 10 Minute Play Festival
~ Labor Day Weekend ~

Here’s another must-do with your friends and family this fall. Take in some good-old-fashioned local entertainment as the Truckee Community Theater presents their “Fall 10 Minute Play Festival” at the Truckee Community Arts Center. Prices range from $18 for Children up to $25 for Adults and are worth every penny! Here’s a quick synopsis from their website as to what you can expect from this well-respected performance troupe in Truckee:
“Back by popular demand, TCT presents three very special performances of these entertaining little plays, all complete in just ten minutes! Enjoy a program of comedies, dramas, historical plays, and plays based on myths and fairy tales. Many of the plays you see will be written by our own local playwrights. 150 Year Truckee Donner Railroad Celebration – Our Final Goodbye

If you have yet to be a part of our community’s celebration of the Transcontinental Railroad, you really need to join in our final event of the 150 Year Truckee Donner Railroad Celebration!
Be sure to take a ride on the Truckee River Railroad which will start free tours around 11 am. Then stick around for a BBQ lunch and lots of education about the part that our hometown played in the Transcontinental’s history.

Giddy-on up to Tahoe Donner and join in this Truckee community Labor Day Weekend Wild West Fest celebration. It’s everything you would expect from a western hoe-down – complete with country music and dancing with Everyday Outlaw, western horse show, a traditional Western-style BBQ, pony rides, balloon toss, games for the kids, and an afternoon of equestrian performances by the Junior Horseman Drill Team and much more.
It’s hosted at the Alder Creek Adventure Center in Tahoe Donner and is open to the public.
