If you’re one to frequent the I-80 Express, shooting right up through Truckee to head into Lake Tahoe, you might be familiar with the scenery above.
It’s a drive that has been taken many a time heading in from San Francisco or Sacramento or anywhere in between, not only by you, but by some of the most iconic thought leaders that have helped shape much of the technology in our lives today. One such story many of us are familiar with is Apple hiring upstart industrial designers Dean Hovey and David Kelley, later to form IDEO, to create the modern computer mouse. It was said that much of that inspiration was derived from one of these jaunts for a retreat in Tahoe.
Just one example of the tech-mindset that finds its inspiration from the natural environment, only a place like Lake Tahoe could provide, I’m sure there are many more stories connected to visits to the towns of Truckee, Olympic Valley, Tahoe City, and Incline Village that continue to be a starting point for great ideas in new technology.
It’s with this in mind that the seasons here provide never ending connections to nature and the natural extension for many creatives & technology entrepreneurs in a wide range of industries to find inspiration and clarity all year long. Living and operating a business out of Truckee provides unlimited connections with both nature and professionals and I’m reminded of this almost everyday as I make my way back and forth through downtown each week.
Every day is a new day to get that latest idea off the ground and find those passionate to help me and my professional community connect with each other over a cup of coffee in any number of unique meeting places here in North Lake Tahoe.
Professional Groups in the Community
The community provides not only some of the cleanest air and most natural of environments in any direction, but also a wealth of business opportunities and professional groups too. If you’re ready to take that great business idea to the next level, the one you gathered while spending some focused time hiking the local trails or on the slopes, Truckee has exactly what you need.
One such group, Truckee Tahoe BNI, meets right downtown at For Goodness Sake every Tuesday morning, to build, enhance, and inspire each other’s business. Or maybe you prefer a more technical tribe of engaging “Silicon Valley” types, like the Tahoe Silicon Mountain group. Many continue to travel to Tahoe frequently, but some have already made the transition here. Or maybe you have already been to one of the many annual technology conferences Tahoe Snowcial, TEDx and many more that have been hosted at Squaw Valley, the Ritz Carlton or Hyatt.
I, myself, love the city life and all it has to offer, but we all know that when the urge to get to the mountains and pristine lakes calls, Tahoe is a few short hours away. However, maybe you’re asking yourself what it would be like to flip the switch? From a Tahoe-based perspective we see it as a few hours’ drive to explore SF or Napa or Monterrey that feels like less traffic, rather than heading to the mountains when all the others are thinking the same thing. These days Tahoe is defining itself as the best of both worlds with the unique ability to combine your professional life and fulfilling your need for adventure.
The next time you’re thinking about your upcoming Tahoe vacation or weekend visit, don’t be shy to ask around with some locals about their professional life because it could be just as easy to take your business with you, and maybe for good this time. Or better yet, shoot a quick Email or call me at 530-582-8103 about your plans in the area because maybe the only catalyst you need is an introduction to one like-minded professional and I would be glad to make that connection for you.
