We’ve told you before and we’ll say it again. “We LOVE the fall season in Truckee/Tahoe!” In addition to the glorious colors changing throughout the Sierra, there is a bountiful list of events that await you and yours.
From annual Oktoberfests (in September, really!), family fun runs and fall hikes to the outstanding new Interactive Live History Events, there are plenty of things to do with your family and friends in the Fall throughout the Sierra.

FUN FALL EVENTS – SAVE THESE DATES!
Tahoe City Oktoberfest
September 21, 2024 | Gatekeeper’s Museum/Tahoe City
This family-friendly event includes a variety of Bavarian-themed food options and craft beers brewed by regional breweries. Enjoy live music, featuring an authentic accordion player, Christiane Georgi. Participate in fun games such as the Stein squat, Yodel Contest, and Weiner Toss. You can also make special Oktoberfest pretzel necklaces and explore the Vendor Village, featuring North Tahoe’s most talented artisan makers and small businesses. And here’s another tip: get creative and dress up in your finest German-themed costume for a chance to win prizes!
Lederhosen 5K ~ Part of this annual event is the family-friendly Lederhosen 5K. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking for a spirited stroll, this run adds an extra layer of excitement to the day’s festivities. The course starts and finishes near the iconic Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City, offering picturesque views and a classic community atmosphere. You’ll follow an out-and-back route on a spacious class 1 (10′ wide) paved trail alongside the scenic Truckee River. Sign up now, and we’ll see you at the Festival.
Annual Palisades Oktoberfest
September 28, 2024 | The Village at Palisades Tahoe
This annual event transforms The Village at Palisades Tahoe into the largest Bavarian playground in North Lake Tahoe, complete with authentic German beer, Bavarian music, and dance, plus the ever-popular Oktoberfest games and plenty of family fun.
Enjoy live entertainment by Joe Smiell’s 20 Piece Bavarian Band, the Almenrausch Schuhplattler Dance Troop and the Alpentanz Kapelle Band.
If you have yet to see or participate in the local’s favorite Oktoberfestivities, this is a must-do this Fall. The games are free on a first come basis and include:
- Stein Race: 1:00 pm- Teams of (2) compete in a speed walk through an obstacle course.
- Brat Toss: 2:30 pm – Toss the bratwurst onto a keg, with each round adding difficulty. -Stein Holding Competition: 4:00 pm
- Competitors hold a full, 1-liter stein in one hand at shoulder height. Last competitor holding full steins wins.
Authentic Brats, Pretzels, Swiss Slices, and traditional European desserts and pastries, plus Root Beer Floats for the kids, will be available for purchase.
Tahoe City Live History Event
September 19, 2024 | Gatekeeper’s Museum/Tahoe City
In partnership with the Tahoe City Friends of the Public Library, there will be The Tahoe City Friends of the Public Library is teaming up with “Live History” to present an exciting two-day performance that promises to bring local history to life. “Live History” is a renowned theater company known for taking audiences on immersive one-hour adventures through time.
During the performance, audiences will be fully engaged as they tour the location, interact with characters, and help solve urgent historical issues.
This promises to be a memorable experience for history enthusiasts and anyone looking for an engaging and interactive theatrical event. Performances will be held on September 19, 2024 (presented by friends of the Tahoe City Library) and September 20th presented by the Gatekeeper’s Museum. Get your tickets in advance; the $30 price includes small bites, refreshments and museum raffle.
