With Mother’s Day just a week away, we thought we’d share some of our favorite things to do with our Moms on that special day and all summer long in Truckee-Tahoe.

From scenic bike rides, hikes to seek early-season wildflowers, a kayak paddle tour or spa day and so much more, the Sierra offers the ultimate backyard for unplugged quality time with your Mom!

Bike the Coldstream Trail System

One the favorite outing for the Elder family is taking the 10-mile Donner State Park guided mountain bike ride through Coldstream Canyon. During the trip you will hear stories about the transcontinental railroad, learn about the region’s indigenous culture, California emigration and wildlife diversity.

Tours are limited to ten riders who have their own mountain bikes (or you can rent them in town). Helmets, sun protection, snacks and water are also recommended. See the schedule for the Mountain Bike Tour of Donner State Park and sign up for a perfect day of pedaling with Mom!

Seek Out The Secrets of The Sierra

Here’s an adventure that overflows with opportunities to capture the hidden gems and history of Lake Tahoe. During the self-guided Audio Tour you will hear stories about the Washoe Indian Tribe which spent their summers along our sandy beaches to the fishing and logging industries, tales about the region’s famous casino gangsters, and of course, stops along the way to capture the region’s magnificent scenery.

There are so many adventurous options to paddle your day away on our crystal clear lakes and streams. This year, treat Mom to the Lake Tahoe Water Trail! Promoted as 72 miles of “pure liquid fun,” we are sure you will experience a trip of a lifetime – although probably not cover 72 miles in one day!! It’s an endless water route with shoreline launches to get you started, wayfinding signage along the way and routes to match your ability. Plan the first segment and make it a summer goal to enjoy every mile!
