Make It Earth Day Every Day
To get you in the mindset, head to Donner Memorial State Park to explore the first stewards of Truckee-Tahoe. You will learn all about the Washoe Tribe who gently settled in and called the Sierra home. Throughout the museum, you can see the methods and tools they used to preserve the land, grow their food sources and gather together to enrich their culture.
As there is still plenty of snow right now, we recommend that you sign up for a Historical Snowshoe Tour which is led by Park staff. As you trek along, you will hear the history of the
Your Weekly Earth Day Calendar Ideas
Thanks to the efforts of Truckee.com, TakeCareTahoe.org, and other like-minded organizations, they have created activities that you can put on your calendar this week.
Use Truckee’s Free “Around Town” On-Demand Shuttle
Instead of driving on Earth Day, consider using TART Connect, a free shuttle that services all of Truckee! The on-demand service provides curb-to-curb to many popular locations. It’s easy to use, and you can even enjoy a glass of wine or local craft beer guilt-free since you won’t have to drive.
Drink Truckee and Lake Tahoe Tap
Truckee’s water comes from the Martis Valley groundwater basin and is arguably some of the best in the world. The water is typically 500-1,000+ years old, requires very little treatment, and comes out of the tap cold, making it refreshing.
When you forest bath, you’re actively using your sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch to connect with the environment. And, no, it’s not taking a real bathtub type of bath in the forest! Get up close and bring each of your five senses to your attention. Ready to pause for your own cause? Here are five steps on how to bathe in the forest.

Mother Nature Monday: Help plan and eat three healthy meals and support local farmers by purchasing locally sourced food. Another idea, make it a date night every week and enjoy a night on the town. See this list of restaurants and stores that offer organic food to savor or shop.
Transportation Tuesday: To be mindful of greenhouse gas emissions related to transportation, get your bikes out of the garage and tune up for the sunny summer months to come. Need some help? See this list of Truckee-Tahoe bike shops.
Waste Free Wednesday: Join the trend to support Truckee’s Green To Go Box program. The Town of Truckee has launched a reusable to-go container program. When you order a to-go meal at participating restaurants, request it in a REUSABLE GREEN BOX. See the details and list of restaurants here.
Thrifty Thursday: Let’s all help reduce our impact on the plant. Take action by turning off the lights when you leave the room. Tired of those clothes you have not worn all winter? Don’t toss them; donate them today to one of our many thrift shops in Truckee and Lake Tahoe.
Flourishing Friday. Get planting! Read about choosing the right plants in this very informative brochure produced by Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Living With Fire Program. It’s called “Choosing the Right Plants for Northern Nevada’s High Fire Hazard Areas.”
