Throughout the 20 years that we have lived and worked in the High Sierra, we have met some of the most delightfully talented neighbors who could have lived anywhere on Earth. Instead, they discovered what our team at Elder Group Tahoe Real Estate continues to enjoy as we raise our families in Truckee and experience the lifestyle of our small, friendly mountain town and community.
We thought you might enjoy meeting a few of our “Truckee-Tahoe Luminaries” that stopped their busy lives for an interview and video produced by the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. We thank them for the opportunity to share those stories below.
In the meantime, if you are looking for a change of lifestyle, seeking a more peaceful place to raise your family with lots of open space and “air” or move your business to Truckee, we would love to show you around.
Feel free to contact us at our Elder Group Tahoe real estate office in Truckee, CA._

Meet Adrian Ballinger and Emily Harrington
World-class Mountaineers
Many of our blogs and newsletters have included stories and activities that are offered through Alpenglow Expeditions which was founded by local resident Adrian Ballinger back in 2004. Today, Adrian and his team of expert mountaineers provide some of the most extreme to educational mountain expeditions from Lake Tahoe to the Himalayas.
Often by his side is Emily Harrington who is known throughout the climbing community as a mentor, leader, and extraordinary athlete who has challenged and climbed some of the highest peaks in the world. Emily is a five-time U.S. National Champion in sport climbing and the first female climber to ascend multiple 5.14 sport climbs.
Within their ‘Luminary” video, you will learn how they feel about the opportunity to live a dream lifestyle, year-round, with their base camp for their worldwide adventures right here in Truckee-Tahoe.

Celebrity Chef, Author, and Local Icon
Though this Luminary video about Lake Tahoe local Douglas Dale, you will hear him explain “why living in a mountain community allows him creative liberty to invent new recipes and even more importantly, how it taught him to laugh.” Ask any local about Douglas, and you will immediately be enticed to put his restaurant “Wolfdale’s” in Tahoe City on your must not miss list.
Listen in as he explains how his worldwide travel and education at the Mineji Temple in southern Japan formed his appreciation for the cuisine he serves to locals and visitors from around the world.
You can learn more about Douglas Dale at Great Chefs.com and then be sure to make a reservation at Wolfdale’s where outdoor seating and take-out are available. _______________________________________________________________________
Full-time Musician, Teacher, and Mom
This is one of our favorites as Jennie explains how you can raise a family, play music with your family on tour, and educate youth about the magic of music – all in one life, all from her hometown in the High Sierra. Find out how she balances it all while taking hikes on the Tahoe Rim Trail, taking a morning swim in Lake Tahoe and being involved in the community as well.
From her home in North Lake Tahoe, Jessica became an integral musician and singer with the ever-so-popular Dead Winter Carpenters band that has been noted as “at the forefront of a youthful generation trying to redefine what string music is and what it can do.”
If you have ever attended the WinterWonderGrass festival at Squaw, you probably enjoyed her entertainment live on stage.
