Ahh, springtime in the Sierra. In as much as our entire team at our real estate office in Truckee have appreciated all the snow (and water to come) this past winter, the clear blue skies and sunshine sure feel good.
It’s a time where a morning on the slopes or riding off piste can be followed by an afternoon on the links and wrapped up with a barbecue on the beach!
Got to love springtime in the High Sierra!
With that said, we thought we’d jump right into springtime and share some of our favorite things to do while the snow slowly gives way to green grass and the start of wildflower season.
From the entire Elder Group Tahoe Real Estate staff, we encourage you to get out enjoy what is left of the superior ski season while you experience all that spring has to offer in and around our hometown!

SKI (AND HIT THE SNOW BEACH!) AT SQUAW ALPINE

That’s right. The beach is open at Gold Coast at Squaw and in front of the Alpine Lodge at Alpine Meadows. What more could you ask for? Ski in the morning and get that Tahoe tan started!
They have scheduled a closing date for July 7 so there’s plenty of time to get your last runs in of the season.

BACKCOUNTRY SKIING
With our impressive snow pack comes every opportunity to try a new winter sport before the snow goes away. And if you’ve ever thought about learning how to backcountry ski, now is an excellent opportunity to do so.
To get you started, we’re recommending you reach out to Alpenglow Expeditions that has a variety of options to get you out and about this spring.
Content from their website explains the details of their “Intro to Backcountry Skiing” spring events:
Learn the fundamentals of traveling safely and efficiently in the backcountry. This trip prepares you for an intermediate Lake Tahoe Ski Tour. You should be an advanced resort skier/rider before pursuing backcountry skiing/riding. Please contact the office if you have questions about skill requirements and our spring program dates: 877-873-5376.
FAT BIKES & SNOW BIKING
Here’s another fun option while the snow is still very much intact. If you’re a fan of mountain biking, you’ll love snow biking. Our friends at the North Tahoe Resort Association produced an informative video about snow biking that we’ll recommend you click in to view now. And when you’re ready to get out and enjoy this rather easy spring sport, hook up with our friends at Tahoe Mountain Guides for all the gear and local insight that you’ll need to get out and about in Truckee and Lake Tahoe this year.
And depending on the snowpack, Tahoe Donner Cross Country offers Fat Bikes to rent with groomed trails available as long as the snow lasts!
HIKE THE SIERRA
Every day we’re seeing a little less snow and a little more grass popping up along our rushing rivers and sun-exposed canyons. We have found that the best way to find out where the trails are showing signs of summer to come is to ask any local or better yet, check in with the local forest service.

GO FLOAT YOUR BOAT
Throughout the Truckee Tahoe region the lakes are ready to share their crystal-clear water and sunbaked beaches with you and yours this spring. There are many sport shops that offer Kayak rentals and kayak adventures throughout the region, and you are always welcome to bring your boat to your favorite launching site.
Do remember to wear your personal flotation device as the water is still on the chilly side this time of the year.

The first course to open in the region is usually Old Brockway Golf Course in Kings Beach. They promote their course as the “longest golf season in Tahoe.” We suggest you give them a call as we expect they will be open real soon. Here’s their number: 530-546-9909.
