~ Seek A Healthier Lifestyle for the Best of the Rest of Your Life!~
Throughout the summer, and now into the fall, we are seeing a tremendous outpouring of interest from Generation X to get out of the city and get a life – where outdoor adventure and healthy home lifestyles are second nature to working and living in the High Sierra.
New trends refer to this surge to find a new home base and live an active life as “voting with their feet,” and with election season underway, we thought this would be a good fit for this posting!
No matter the season, the reason we are experiencing such a growth in interest from Gen-Xers to move to Truckee/Tahoe is consistently praised by some of the top sports and lifestyle mediums in the country.
SUNSET magazine tapped Truckee as the “Best Adventure Town.” MEN’S JOURNAL and JETSETTER hand-picked Truckee as one of the “Best Mountain Towns.” Topping it all was NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC’s selection within its top 25 list as one of the “World’s Best Ski Towns.”
Closer to home, NBC Bay Area calls Truckee the “Coolest Ski Town in North America.”
We couldn’t ask for better testimonials to further document the natural assets and variety of mountain-style homes that have placed our hometown on the radar for Gen-Xers who are seeking a better lifestyle and location to call ‘home’ for the best of the rest of their lives.

Attitude & Altitude
There is something about living in and around some of the most spectacular scenery that shifts one’s outlook on life – outdoors. It’s where the Sierra’s extreme peaks and ridges, crystal clear lakes, and rapid running streams take your breath away and recharge your passion to live a more active and healthier life.
From the edge of the Desolation Wilderness to some of the most respected ski resorts and golf resorts in the world, to the largest Alpine lake in North America – this is your inspiration … your future backyard.

Outdoors is the new IN
When it comes to home design the same rule applies. The concept of living a full life in the great outdoors and ‘bringing the outdoors in” is very much alive and well throughout Lake Tahoe and Truckee.
Architects and home designers throughout the Sierra continue to set new trends in mountain home design. And right here in Truckee and Lake Tahoe, there are some exceptional examples.
- The new Mountainside at Northstar promotes this new community as “spatially powerful homes for the sophisticated market … progressive in a design that is truly one of a kind.”
- For world-class “cool,” check out the new Palisades at Squaw Valley where its architecture is ultra modern and environmental features and location make this one of the most sought-after investments in the market today.
- Gray’s Crossing notes it best on their website as “A neighborhood that offers beautiful aesthetics and thoughtful logistics” in addition to a wide variety of exquisite homes wrapped throughout its Peter Jacobsen/Jim Hardy designed championship golf course.
So many of the real estate options in Truckee and Lake Tahoe have design features that are bringing the outdoors “in” all over the Sierra. From all-season mud rooms and man caves to store the toys, to full-size outdoor kitchens with wood-fired pizza ovens, and expansive windows that fold away to bring Mother Nature in, the focus is on family fun in the great outdoors, and in!

Extremely-Sensational Seasons
We’ve lost count on how many times we have asked our neighbors and clients at Elder Group Tahoe Real Estate how they got here in the first place. Time after time, they came for a short vacation, and stayed for life. Right now, the trees are turning, the skies are crisp and clear, and the backcountry is a mecca for mountain biking, rock climbing and Geocashing adventures.
Back in town, the chat at the local cafes is all about which season pass one has purchased – a sure sign winter is on its way. With the largest concentration of ski resorts in America right here in the Sierra, and most of the season passes offering access to resorts throughout North America, Truckee/Tahoe has truly turned into a adventure mecca of big proportions. Not a snowboarder or skier? Perhaps Ice-climbing or back-country snowmobiling await your spirit of adventure.
Come springtime, there’s no need to be a professional tri-athlete – although many of the worlds’ finest do train here. It’s not uncommon to hit the slopes, wakeboard at lunch, and rock climb well into sunset.
As for summer, ahh, too many outdoor adventures to list in one blog. For more credibility to our statement about Gen-Xers voting with their feet … there are ample reasons why some of the toughest athletic events in the country [e.g. Ironman Tahoe, Tough Mudder, Xterra Tahoe, World Cup] have selected Tahoe and Truckee as the site of their most prestigious competitions.
